Claude Code and Codex in one Agent Area

Run both beside the same canvas. BaseHalf installs one skill, records what you selected, and never dumps the folder into a prompt.

We used to keep Claude Code in one terminal and Codex in another. The project folder was open somewhere else. Asking either tool about “this card” meant pasting a path again, or dumping half the tree into the prompt so nothing got missed.

BaseHalf is not an agent. The Agent Area is the right side of the same window that holds the canvas. You open a folder, the cards appear, and on the right you start Claude Code, Codex, a curated extension, or a plain Terminal for OpenCode, Gemini CLI, and the rest. The folder stays one place. The agents sit beside it.

What you can open

Claude Code runs the claude CLI. Codex runs the codex CLI. We also ship curated extensions for both, and Terminal sessions for anything else you already use. Sessions are tabs and panes. You split, restart, stop, resize, and zoom without leaving the canvas.

Session typeHow it runsGood for
Claude Code CLIclaude in the Agent AreaDaily coding against the open folder
Codex CLIcodex in the Agent AreaA second agent on the same cards
Curated extensionsBuilt-in Claude Code / Codex panesPeople who prefer the extension UI
TerminalOpenCode, Gemini CLI, shellAnything that already works in a terminal

We rearrange cards while a session is running. When the files look right, we commit. There is no export step between the map and the agent.

One skill, not a dumped prompt

The first time you open a folder, BaseHalf offers to install a skill. It goes into ~/.claude/skills/basehalf/ and ~/.agents/skills/basehalf/. It never lands inside the project folder, and we do not write into CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md.

The skill tells agents how to read .bh/, descriptions, connections, selection, and drafts used for generate. Selection itself is recorded in .bh/cache/selection.yaml while the window is open. Git never sees that file. The status bar shows what the agents currently see when you say “this”.

We never put the whole workspace into an agent's prompt. Agents open the files they need. The canvas, the selection, and the skill are enough for Claude Code and Codex to share one folder without starting cold every time. That is the Agent Area we wanted: two CLIs, one map, ordinary files.
